The Bible
We believe the Holy Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It is truth without error and is out final authority in all matters of faith and Christian living. The church is subject to the Word of God and we believe God’s Word is as true and relevant today as when it was written.

God
We believe there is one living and true God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. He is eternal, holy, all-powerful, all-knowing, and perfect in love and righteousness. Hew reveals Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit- three distinct Persons, yet one God.God of the New and Old Testament to be the only true God.

Jesus
Jesus is the eternal Son of God. He came to earth as God in the flesh, born of a virgin. He lived a sinless life and willingly died on the cross for the sins of mankind. On the third day, He rose bodily from the grave, defeating sin and death. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father, where he intercedes for believers. One day, He will return personally, visibly, and gloriously as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit to be the third person of the trinity, fully God with the Father and Son. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement. At salvation, He indwells and seals every believer, guiding us unto truth, empowering us to live holy lives, and equipping us to serve and glorify Jesus Christ.

Salvation
Salvation is a gift of God’s grace alone, received through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. We believe all people are sinners in need of a Savior. Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose bodily from the grave on the third day. God calls all people to repent of their sins and place their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Through his shed blood, we receive forgiveness, eternal life, and adoption into the family of God. Apart from Christ, there is no salvation.

Church
Church is not a building. The word church in the Bible comes from the Greek word ecclesia, which means a called-out company or assembly. At First Baptist Church of Coal City, we are a family of imperfect people who know they need a Savior, work together to build relationships, help those in need, and glorify God by striving to be like Christ and share His love with others. We practice believer’s baptism by immersion as an act of obedience and a public testimony of faith. We observe the Lord’s Supper in remembrance of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice. We believe Jesus is the head of the church.
