The First Baptist Church of Coal City is happy to announce the appointment of their new pastor, David Gilleland. Pastor David, his wife Rejeana and their family are excited to be involved in the community and look forward to serving the Lord in Coal City and the surrounding areas.
Pastor David is a life-long resident of Illinois, born in Belleville and raised in Grafton and Fieldon, IL., he graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1984. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Lance Missile Crewmember and served two overseas tours in Germany before leaving the service in 1990.
Pastor David became a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Gillespie in 1997 and served in multiple capacities there to include: Sunday School Director, Discpipleship Training Director, Youth Leader, Adult Sunday School Teacher and AWANA Commander. He began preaching as pulpit supply in the Macoupin Baptist Association ten years ago and preached at nearly 20 churches in that association. He has been a volunteer for Compassion International and has sponsored children through that organization since 2005. He has coordinated, fundraised for, and led six short term mission team trips to El Salvador and Haiti with Living Water International.
Pastor David and his family recently relocated to this area after he accepted a position as the Suicide Prevention Program Manager for the 416th Theater Engineer Command in Darien, IL. Prior to this transfer, he served in the same capacity with the Illinois Army National Guard from 1999-2001.
David and his wife Rejeana and have been married for over sixteen years and we have five children: Tyler, Tori, Jacob, Rahel, and Mihreteab. They enjoy small animal farming and spending family time together.
